The Tuber aestivum, better known as the summer truffle or "scorzone," is the world's most common truffle species and a popular summer treat. It grows from June to November in many parts of Europe, including Italy, France, Spain, and occasionally in Germany.
When ripe, it exudes a delicate, mushroomy-nutty aroma reminiscent of porcini mushrooms and hazelnuts. It pairs perfectly with egg dishes, pasta, or in combination with spices such as pepper, salt, and garlic.
The summer truffle is recognizable by its matte black shell and light, finely marbled interior. Animals such as squirrels also help with the natural growth of this special delicacy by spreading the spores.
When compiling the sizes of the shipping units, as many 20g+ truffles as possible are used.
Storage & Shelf Life:
Remove the truffles from the vacuum upon receipt. Store in a refrigerator at +3°C, wrapped in absorbent paper (changed daily) or in a sealed glass container. It is best to consume the premium products within 7 days, because the truffle loses its aroma every day.
